  • This is Perda on Crazy_Writer`s team, which is also the team that agrees with the opinion that death penalty should be abolished.

As Irene said, I`m going to write about why I oppose at her opinions, and how her opinions don`t make sense. (Only if there`s a part that doesn`t make sense)

Firstly, I think the death penalty should be abolished because although people could be scared of the death penalty and don`t commit crimes, but there are still a lot of people out in that world who commits crimes and aren`t afraid of death, or has a plan to commit a crime, then hide it perfectly. There are still a lot of ways to hide proof and clues. If the police can`t capture the criminal, then what good is death penalty to us? And even if there isn`t death penalty, there are still a lot of punishments out there that we can use to punish the criminal. I think it`s too unmerciful for the government to kill the criminal. What will the criminal learn, or will the society learn that this is wrong? I don`t think the criminal will learn anything, and even if he does, it`s all over. What good would repent do if he can`t use it?

Even if your opinion is different from mine, I believe that everyone deserves a second chance. If the criminal takes that second chance, he can take education about why they must not commit crimes, then I believe that he can turn over a new leaf, be a better man, and go back out to society. He won`t have a chance to say sorry, perhaps, to the family of the killed person if he gets executed. Besides, there are a lot of cases of decreasing crime rates after a government abolished death penalty. For example, in Canada, they abolished the death penalty in the year 1976. I found info that Canada`s crime rate, especially crimes of murder, steadily dropped, and in the year 2016, it was at it`s lowest since 1996. Even without death penalty, humans can always find out a way for better punishments. Deleting criminals from society doesn`t always help.

Second, once you kill a person who is thought to be the criminal, you can`t take it back. Judges could make the person get executed, and after his or her death, it was found that the criminal is another person. So the criminal was innocent. Let`s say the government paid money to the family who lost the innocent criminal. Would that be enough to comfort them? No! Public opinions would change about death penalty if they knew about this, and then they could be opposing the government, and that would be bad for the country. Besides, if they killed another person by innocent, then the person who killed the innocent person is also a murderer. To prevent pitiful situations like this, I agree that death penalty should be abolished.

As conclusion, I disagree with the death penalty (Which also means agreeing with the abolishment of death penalty) because it can lead to accidents and there are a lot of other things we can do for crimes.
