The mystery of the third floor
-Ch. 1
Caroline Healdon was a pretty girl living in the countryside, far from the New York city. She was only 4 years old, and she was curious about many things. Although she had to work to earn money for house living, she was happy to live with her family. However, there is no way that this happiness would go forever. In December 21st, 1958, her both parents passed away because of the common virus that killed many people. And that was the start of her unpahappiness.
Caroline didn't know that she had no relatives. She said that she had an Aunt living in Manhattan, but no one believed her. Caroline eventually went to an orphanage near her village. The orphanage was poor, and in bad situation. The oldest orphan was Irina, who was 16. Everyday, she had to clean every rooms in the orphanage.
When Caroline entered the orphanage, the ledger complained about the money that costs for one kid. But, after Caroline should her worth, the ledger started to convince her. Caroline made friends quickly. At the same time, she made rivals too. To introduce them, first for friends, there were Jessie, Hendrix, and Pablo. Jessie and Hendrix was 8 like Caroline, and Pablo was 9. The four of them, Jessie, Caroline, Hendrix, and Pablo did things together, such as studying, doing their orphanage work, and other things. And for rivals, there were Ava and Aiden. Aiden was 10 years old, and Ava was 8. They were selfish and they liked to have challenges with other people.

One day, Caroline was doing her homework in the classroom, when Ava pulled her ponytail.
"Ouch! Who is it?"
Caroline cried. She turned back and Ava was standing there. Ava just chuckled, and Aiden watched them hold back laughter.
Caroline was so upset that she almost cried. However, she just stand up, and stood right in front of Ava. Ava spoke loudly.
"Oh, I am so~ sorry. I didn't know it was yours. Ha, Ha, Ha! I thought you would cry! Whoa, you are so~ brave~ I bet your
PARENTS would be proud of you in HEAVEN."
Bam!
Hendrix stood up, knocking the chair behind him. Hendrix stomped to Ava, with Jessie and Pablo behind. They looked very upset,
and Jessie was about to cry. Hendrix pumped out his chest. And then he shouted,
"DO, NOT, PULL CAROLINE'S PONYTAIL, YOU STUPID!"
Ava started crying, and she ran to Aiden. Aiden scowled at Hendrix, and then went upstairs, to their room.
After they went upstairs, Hendrix asked Caroline, if she was okay. Caroline just told her she was okay.
That afternoon, at study time, Ava tattletaled to Mrs. Kale about the situation. Mrs. Kale called Hendrix, Caroline, Ava, and
Aden, and Jessie to come out.
"Is it true that you shouted at Ava, Hendrix? You know that is wrong."
Mrs. Kale scolded.
"B...But, Ava was pulling Caroli......."
"Well, Mrs. Kale, you know Hendrix was wrong, but he is just a little boy. Let's just forgive him. Also, Ava has a fault too."
Aiden chimed in. Mrs. Kale smiled at Aiden cause she treated him as her own son.
"Well that is an excellent idea, Aiden! How smart you are. Ava, is your brother right?"
"Y..ye..yes, ma'am. I am...(sob) so..(cough) sorry..(sob) I accidentally pulled Caroline's poneytail as I fall over. I am so sorry Caroline
please, would you forgive me?"
Mrs. Kale smailed and looked at Ava lovingly. Caroline just stood there, shaking with anger.
"But, ma'am! It was not an accident!"
Mrs. Kale turned to Hendix sharply. She laughed dumbfounded.
"Then what happened, Hendrix Roden? I don't like liars like you and your parents!"
Hendrix blushed. Hendrix was only 2 years old when he was abandoned in front of the orphanage. His parents were famous liars
who lied to the banker for 10 years. They abandoned Hendrix because they didn't had time to raise a kid.
"Uh...Mrs. Kale, I forgave Ava already. I know it was an accident. I know she would NOT do it deliberatly, since we are friends. I am
so sorry for this turmoil that just happened. Also, may a ask you a favor?"
Mrs. Kale nodded with a slight smile.
"I wish you wouldn't talk about Hendrix's parents. As you know ma'am, he is sensitive at his parents. Would you promise?"
With her polite apology, this turmoil ended quickly. However, Ava and Aiden started to bully Caroline more and more, until she
got adopted by a man who was a millionaire.

With her friends' farewell, Caroline left Haley Falton Orphanage, in October 21st, 1962.
