  • It's summer. You probably might not understand what I mean. I mean it's summer vacation now. But at the Clark, they call it "the summer." "The summer" means "you have to come home", which I hate. School is awful, but I'd rather stay at school and study hard than stay home for a whole month. Some of you might think I'm the strangest person in the world, because a vacation is a time you don't have to study so hard and rest. However, when you are such a not-so-gorgeous and not-so-pretty and even-not-so-smart princess, you have to study, from 8 o'clock straight to 6 o'clock, with a governess, on vacation. I know, its 2 and a half hours little than at school. But if you've met my governess, your thought would change.

My governess is a young woman, with long curled dark hair and purple glasses that helps her sharply-sharp eyes glare. She's actually a beauty when she smiles, which I just once saw her do that on "the winter" when she was dining with Bruno and Lavender's governess and my father. She actually smiled the whole time. I tried to listen what they were talking about. However, apparently, I wasn't suppose to peek in like that, so I was taken to my room, and had to stay in there and study until 11. Which had been 5 total hours, and I had just finished my lessons and was simply trying to have a rest. My father is usually in charge of punishment to all four of us, and he rarely punishes us. He just says, "Oh, my dear, its okay. Just don't do it next time," and we never did it another time again, which means that worked. Unfortunately, this time, my father left my governess, whose name is Sarah O'Ponder, if I haven't told you yet, in charge of punishment as he cut a lobster carelessly. Sarah O'Ponder, called as Miss dear O'Ponder by my father, is very strict and annoying. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she ran into my room while I did my homework and suddenly told me Mr. Haks is actually her twin brother and their last names are just different because she just married an O'Ponder.

Anyway, back to the topic. So, I took the train yesterday night, and arrived to our castle in a carriage. I slept, and studied through the morning and afternoon, and here I am, at 8 P.M., writing. There are good news for me, and also bad news for me. And it's going to happen tomorrow! At least, it's supposed to happen tomorrow. I wish the good one does, and the bad one doesn't. Okay, the good news is, that tomorrow is my birthday, and my father is going to throw me a party, all for me, though no one except the servants who serve me, and my father(at least for a few minutes), is coming. I can invite anyone I want, and according to Lavender, it's very rude to not invite your servants to your birthday party. And believe me, she's never invited her servants. She just invited her friends from Clark. And boyfriends - more likely princes whom she met at balls and parties. But I decided I would invite my servants anyway, since I had no one to invite. I actually would like to invite Theresa, but my siblings can't come at all, because they have to study. The best thing of this birthday party, is that I have no lessons at all tomorrow. I can do whatever I want all day, and there's no one to tell me what to do, not even "Miss dear O'Ponder" or her suspected-twin-brother. Not even if I ate like 5 potato chips from a cheap grocery store in a row.

Okay, here goes the bad news. Since I am twelve now, it means I'll turn 13 years old tomorrow. Which means I am a teenager. And in the Great Castle of Western, you have to attend every ball or party unless you are sick or hurt. And tomorrow is the first Sunday of a month which means a ball would be there to attend. My father reminded us of that at dinner and reminded me that it would be my first ball, and so I had to be careful and behave, and also learn how to dance with handsome man. Which is terrible. I complained to my father, that it would not be fair since the ball startes at 4 o'clock in some kind of castle which takes an hour by a carriage, which means I have to start getting ready at about 1. Which means my all-free day would be ruined, so I couldn't go to the ball. My father told me he would give the day off for all us four, and give a free day the next-next day for me. So I told him that I had a fever and I couldn't go. That's when he got really mad.

"Violet Ruby Western!" he shouted. "I know you are malingering! Don't you see how important this ball is? One day you would have to marry and leave with a prince! And this is the first chance for you to start searching for that prince! Also, I've told the king of the Beatrawban that I'd bring you! Period! Now go to your room and be ashamed of yourself!"

I walked out with my back to the servants who kept saying, "Steady yourself, my lord."

Oh, this is a nightmare! I can't believe how I'd have to dance with princes! Okay, I'll confess. I've actually never met a prince -excepting Bruno - in my 12 years of life. I'm so nervous, and I've never met other kings. I'd stayed in the castle my whole life. I guess this sounds like a strange movie. But it's true. I never danced! I'm sure I'll keep stepping on other princes' feet. I feel terrible. I actually wish I'd wake up tomorrow morning to find out I have a terrible fever. That's my final wish after getting yelled at and going to sleep.
