    Life is a Grace#23

After Half an hour, the automobile stopped. "Are we there?" Grace asked to the maid. The maid answered yes and Grace anticipated to see the house. When she got out from the automobile, Grace figured out that the house was a

good one even though it was not as fancy as Grace expected it to be. Besides,Grace could hear lots of dogs barking fiercely from somewhere..soon,The maid knocked the door and a very strict looking butler opened it. He led Grace into the big house. It was not as good as Mr and Mrs.Edward's house. Thinking about them made Grace miss the kind people who did so much for her. While thinking, the butler spoke with an unwavering look. "Would you please come with me Miss Penelope?' he said. Grace trotted and scurried beyond the butler, doing her best to keep up with him. Grace did not know where she was heading. However, she assumed she was going to the seating room to meet Mr and Mrs.Andrew. On the way, Grace figured out that there were fairly many servants and maids, here and there working hard. Grace turned her head slightly around. Then at last the butler knocked on a fancy looking door and said calmly, "Here's Miss Grace Penelope sir." With a sound of a male's voice, "Do let her in!,Grace entered the room. The fire was blazing warmly and there were two large couches. On a bigger chair, there sat a fat man who looked rather short. On another, There sat a woman who looked very gorgeous. Due to the woman's gorgeous face, Grace wondered why she married with such a short and fat man. Grace stood rather still for a moment. Mr and Mrs.Andrew sat considerably still either. They seemed to be expecting Grace for paying a respect to them.By now, Grace determined to introduce herself to them. So, she said in a very polite and well-educated manner and sounded like a strict yet tender tutor's tone. "How do you do Mr and Mrs.Andrew. It is very nice to meet you. My name is Grace Pe..Penelope and I majored psychology as you might know." Said Grace. Then, Mr.Andrew began."How do you do. I'm Johnson Andrew and this is my wife, Charlotte Andrew." Mr.Andrew tilted his head toward his wife and Mrs.Andrew nodded her head curtly and flatly. She gave a suspicious look on Grace and at the moment Mr.Andrew was about to say something else, she blurted out haughtily. "Aren't to young to get a professional job, and positions as such as so? Would you mind of telling your age?" Grace did not mind of Mrs.Charlotte Andrew asking her age plainly. However in Mrs.Andrew's tone, there was something impertinent and unbearable which belittled and rather humiliated Grace. So,Grace almost blurted out saying, 'I'd not want to tell you, impertinent Mrs.' Luckily for her, Grace stopped and dragged herself from the catastrophe and said instead and a calm voice. "I am yet a little young ma'am. However, I can do my best to lead and care for children." Said Grace. "Hmph!"Mrs.Andrew snorted. Mr.Johnson was indolent and rude enough. However his nature was a little better than Mrs.Johnson's and he could at least notice his wife's rumpled mood. Due to the reason,he rapidly said."So now..!Will you go and see Janet? Miss Penelope?Would you like to see her now?" He said. "Oh yes please. I'd love to meet her." Grace answered her voice a little more brighter than from the tone she used with Mrs.Andrew. A servant led their way through corridors and corridors. Mrs.Andrew occasionally gave Grace an askance looks which made Grace feel uneasy greatly. At last after a long sort of journey to Janet's room,They finally came upon to the door which was made of fancy wood. The maid knocked and opened the door and looked worryingly at Grace. As Grace entered the room, Grace saw that the fire was blazing merrily at the fireplace and another of the maid was sitting next to it.And as Grace turned her head toward the windows, she saw a girl with a very long, straight hair gazing out the window only showing her back. Grace stepped closer to Janet, turned back and looked at Mr and Mrs.Johnson. Mr.Johnson nodded at her. Surely this kid was their daughter Janet. So,Grace stood beside the girl and said in a tender voice."Hello Janet dear.I'm teacher Grace! We will be nice friends for sure, right?" However,Janet just looked out at the window and did not give Grace her least attention.Grace figured out that this girl Janet's highly interested about the weather. Grace wanted to make Janet look at her naturally and suddenly asked. "You like looking out the window, right? What do you think about today's weather?" But even before Grace could settle herself. Janet jumped up at the word 'weather' and let out an eerie shriek.Grace was so astonished at the moment and thought 'What have I done? Did I just say something very forbidden?" She pondered. Well, she didn't exactly pondered because she was interrupted by Janet's screaming added by few maid's gasping sounds and of Mrs.Johnson's trying to coax her daughter. During what all happened, Mr.Johnson said to Grace. "She's mysteriously sensitive at that word..well..that one which starts with 'W' and ends with 'R' She also wonders around the 'Passageways' at night time..Even she's my daughter,I really cannot understand her.." Grace nodded toward him.She understood what Mr Johnson was informing about. He didn't dare say the word 'weather' because he was afraid that'd make Janet's symptom even worse. Grace wanted to help Janet nevertheless she kept resisting toward Grace. Finally, after a quarter of an hour, Janet's slender body stopped shaking. And her arms dropped and she stopped stomping her feet. She went back to the window seat and began to look out cautiously. "Well..!What do you think about her?" Mrs.Andrew almost demanded at Grace. What she thought of Janet? How can Mrs. Charlotte Andrew ask about such a thing? For most certainly, Grace thought that Janet's rather out-of-control little brat. She couldn't help thinking Janet's spoiled even though she knew Janet either could NOT be helped for being a little mad. However,Grace wasn't gonna show her reputation to Mr and Mrs.Andrew. How could she? So,she instead said calmly. "Well...I think she's a very dear girl and would be even better if she's educated a little more.."  At Grace's remark, many of the maids gave her a very astonished, rebuking, or looks of disbelief....They nudged each other with their thin elbows while Mrs.Andrew asked again.

"Then, what do you think about this..humble house?"she asked. Grace knew for sure that she was only being pretentious toward the matter. While keep thinking, 'I don't think I like it here..Not even Mr and Mrs.Andrew nor Janet..' Grace spat out. "I think I'm going to like it here..."  Mrs.Andrew rolled her pretty but rude eyes. She seemed to be disappointed Grace Penelope did not say her house is fanciful. Nevertheless, she told one of the maids to take Grace to her room since the time turned late. Grace's room was a plain one which was still better than the college dormitory. The room had a wooden table and bed, and a fire place at the corner. there was a closet either and a mirror was hung up on the wall. The window was high and Grace began to like the room unlike the other parts of the house. After Grace unpacked all of her luggage. She began to write a letter to Sofia

    Dear Sofia

How are you doing Sofia? For me,I just arrived at Birmingham.I don't think I like neither Mr and Mrs.Andrew nor even Janet.

I'm not trying to be mean. However I assessed Janet much more extraordinary than I expected her to be. She is more than just sensitive about the word 'weather' and I can't understand that! How could this certain word 'weather' could give a child a terror?

What do you think? Do you think it has any particular meanings or so?

Sorry my letter contains not-too-good News..and is messy. I'm kinda busy unpacking and thinking about Janet and my life here at Birmingham. I Hope you'd be able to have a good time teaching at Florida. I guess..your pupils doesn't have any *'Hidden'* Mysteries or walks around '*Passageways'*? You are a lucky girl. However I think I ought to be respectable toward my job at this house since it's nobody's but mine..Have a blissful day Sofia. I have to prepare for tomorrow.

    Goodbye.

                                   From your sincere friend, Grace

After She wrote the letter, Grace sat very still yet was thinking. 'So many things had happened just during a single day..'

She thought. 'Yet today wasn't too satisfying..' there was a mournful look on Grace's eyes for a moment. But soon enough, she murmured defiantly, "Still, tomorrow's awaiting...!"/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
