The Truth II

(Final Chapter!)

  "I.. I'm sorry, Laura. I can't tell this to you. And I guess this secret led into some troubles .." Laura's mom looked down and sighed. "I am regularly giving Hannah some foods and things she needs. And I come here every Sunday morning, before you and your dad sleeps. Um, there's some personal reason for Hannah began to stay here. And I can't tell you those reasons, unfortunately. I'm sorry."

  "Okay, I understand that. But it is not true that Professor Steven put you here and locked you here, right?" Laura asked, looking at Miss Hannah who was looking at her mom.

  "Yeah, of course he does not! He is nice and he is really good father to me! I don't know how those rumors started, Laura. It's all wrong, and you must tell the others about this. He is innocent, and that makes me feel bad .. " Miss Hannah pleaded at her.

  Laura scratched her head. "I'm sorry for asking that question again. Um, can I ask one more question?" Laura politely asked to her and Miss Hannah gently nodded. "When did you start to stay here because of you .. personal reasons? And did school security guards know that you began to stay here?"

  Miss Hannah hesitated and answered. "Hmm, maybe about one month ago? It hadn't been so long that I stayed here and also your mother came to visit me. She's really nice. Anyway, yes! School security guards all know this, and I am staying here with their permission! And actually, my dad also visits me almost every day to check me! He's really kind, like I said you. Although he might be strict when teaching his students."

  Her mom patted Miss Hannah on her shoulder. "Hannah is also kind. She is always happy and makes me feel better everytime I visit her. To explain why I began to take care of her, is .. I've known Hannah many years ago since she is my friend's little sister. She died sadly with Hannah's mother, and Hannah and Mr. Steven had some troubles maintaining their life. Anyway, Hannah texted me that she will be going to stay here underground on your school and asked me if I can deliver foods and things. I agreed immediately, thinking about their sad backgrounds." She wiped out her tears and began again. "Hannah also likes KitKats, like I do, and I am giving her one box every week since she really likes it_"

  Laura interrupted her mom and quickly added. "Wait, is that the reason why there were so many KitKat trashes on the stairs? I thought it was too strange. And also, the reason why you were buying so many KitKat boxes? I've always thought it was odd for you to buy such many snacks and it disappears too quickly."

  "Yes, sweety. And I'm sorry for hiding the secret for you. Your dad knows that, and we've been acting like this for about a month or two. However, you don't need to worry 'bout me since Hannah will leave soon. She found a new job and a place to live instead of this small and dark place. Thank goodness, Hannah!" Laura's mother said, and burst into tears.

  Miss Hannah patted her and smiled. "Did you know that Laura and her friends had some troubles before you came here?" She said, looking at Laura. Laura groaned, but Miss Hannah chuckled. Her mom opened her eyes wide and eagerly listened. As she listened, she could see her mom's face getting darker.

  "Laura Lee! How could you plan those things hiding from your parents! I'm .. I'm just too shocked. Ah, that's why you were acting so familiarly with Hannah!" Her mom sighed with relief. "I guess I don't have any reason to scold you since I've also lied to you about this. Let's share everything from now on! And no hiding truths !"

  With her promise, Laura and her mom, Miss Hannah all laughed together.

  On next Monday, Laura told the others all about her mom and Miss Hannah that she learned last Sunday. They were cleaning their class after school for the punishment that Professor Steven gave them. They all gasped.

  "Wow, your mom was helping Miss Hannah? That's..too surprising and shocking for me, isn't it?!" Olive asked and the others all nodded.

  "If it was your mother helping her, and we would not have to get this punishment!" Kaylee complained as she groaned about their punishment.

  Lucas laughed. "It's just lucky for us to get this little punishment since I expected more harsh ones. It's generous of him to give this easy punishment."

  Daniel frowned. "It's easy to clean the classroom for you, but not to us! In fact, we still need to write some letters to him apologizing and regretting what we've done. It is easy actually."

  Laura smiled. "Just happy for me that everything turned out to be nice for everyone! Miss Hannah will soon leave, and most importantly, we now all know that Professor Steven is bad father! He's really nice, and we can all know that by this punishment."

She paused and began. "Although I strongly opposed this adventure, I guess it is a good experience now! Do you guys also think this way?"

  With Laura's question, everyone laughed and shouted "YES!"

  Professor Steven, who was watching them outside grinned.

  "Those kids are silly. How can we imagine them to plan such dangerous thing by themselves? Nonsense, and maybe I should punish them more since I heard them talking!" He thought, but he was smiling gently.

"I think I taught my students well, and I can feel it in my heart." With those words, he walked away to his office.
