    • Do you think it would be fun to be a dog handler? Why or why not? What do you think would be the most interesting thing about a dog show? Write as much as you can.
  • Do you think it would be fun being a dog handler? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. As a matter of fact, I might ACTUALLY become a dog handler when my dog, Reo is an adult. I think dog show is an exciting way to show off  dogs an their handlers' teamwork. It takes a lot of training to enter a dog show. I mean for dogs and handlers both. Dogs have to learn to obey their handlers. They also have to build a strong body if there's going to enter in Agility or a diving contest. In exchange, handlers have to do what is the best for dogs. The food, the exercise, everything! Reo and I are practicing teamwork as often as we can. As a result, he listens to me pretty well for his age.

I think there's these unfriendly handlers who think dogs are their possession, and dog show is about training dogs to do tricks. Or the handlers who treat dogs roughly. Those kind of handlers is even worse than the handlers who doesn't know what they're doing!

Remember: teamwork and trust are the key to good results on the contest. The training is practically letting the dog see that you're trustworthy to handle him. Then I suppose the dogs would do anything for his handler!

So I think being a handler is fun, and it's also a way to build good friendship with the dog.

What do you think would be the most interesting thing about a dog show?

Well, there are many types of dog show. In Spotlight, the dog show Jackie was doing with Howler was about good gaits and manners. The judges in that type of dog show also focused on the look of the dogs, according to the story.

But that's not the only dog show there is. Let me introduce some that I know about.

    1. Agility

I mentioned this type above. Do you remember? It's also shown in the Spotlight story for a little while. Agility is my favorite type of dog show, and Reo's specialty. Dogs jump over bars, go through tunnels, and climb onto stuff. The judges keep track of their speed and skill. Reo can jump over high shrubs and walk on top of high walls already! He's very brave.

    2. Diving Contest

I don't really know a lot about this type. But I do know that dogs chase a ball or frisbee into a pool, diving in when the handler throws one. It's pretty cool to see them all DIVING.

    3. Puller

This type is more like a dog SPORT than dog show. So is the diving contest above, but I didn't mention it there.

Puller requires a strong body and focus from the dogs and handlers. It uses two purple, large, styrofoam rings.

There's two events: running and jumping. For running, dogs fetch the rolling rings again and again. And for jumping, dogs bite into the two rings that the handlers are holding. It's not easy, but Reo's learning to do that too.

These types of dogs shows are all fun. But the real interesting thing is watching the dog and his or her handler's teamwork.

     Teamwork really works!
